Fan Annotations (2)
“Say so, malhaejwo” Say so, 말해줘
"말해줘" (malhaejwo) means "say it / tell me" — the -줘 (-jwo) ending makes it a soft, almost pleading request rather than a demand, which gives the Korean a warmth the breezy English "say so" only hints at. Set side by side, the two halves of the hook ask the same thing in two emotional registers at once. Doja Cat's "Say So" (from Hot Pink, 2019) blew up off a viral TikTok dance and the Nicki Minaj remix took it to number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 2020 — a first chart-topper for both artists (Wikipedia).

“Say so, soljikage” Say so, 솔직하게
"솔직하게" (soljikhage) means "honestly" or "frankly" — pairing it with "say so" turns the hook into a double ask: say the words, and mean them straight. Where the English playfully circles the point, the Korean adverb names the thing the whole song is fishing for — honesty. The original "Say So" rode a viral TikTok dance challenge to ubiquity in 2020 before the Nicki Minaj remix sent it to number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (Wikipedia).
